Isola di Levanzo, Egadi
Sicily
Levanzo is the smallest of the Egadi Islands — barely 6 km² — but extraordinary for two reasons: the Grotta del Genovese contains Palaeolithic cave engravings of bison, horses and tuna; and the sea off the island was the site of the Battle of the Egadi (241 BC), where Rome defeated Carthage. The circuit trail is wild and beautiful.
