The Fortezza del Girifalco sits at the very top of Cortona's steep hill, its ramparts giving a sweeping view that takes in the whole Valdichiana floor and, on clear days, Lake Trasimeno beyond the Umbrian border. The climb from town is steep but short, on stepped medieval lanes.
