Corno Grande, Gran Sasso

Abruzzo

Corno Grande is the king of the Apennines. The normal route via the Refugio Garibaldi is a serious mountain day with scrambling on exposed rock. The Calderone glacier on the north face is the southernmost true glacier in Europe — though retreating rapidly. The summit view spans from the Adriatic to the Tyrrhenian.
