A three-million-year-old fossil sea floor, uplifted and eroded into a jagged rampart of cliffs — the "buttress" — between the Setta and Savena valleys. The reserve's paths run below and along the crest past nesting peregrines and the ruined Rocca di Badolo, with Bologna spread out to the north.
