Grotta dello Smeraldo, Conca dei Marini
Campania
The Grotta dello Smeraldo near Conca dei Marini is reached by descending 30 steps from the coast road to a boat, which rows you inside the sea cave. Submerged stalactites and aragonite crystals glow emerald from refracted light through an underwater entrance. On the bed of the cave, divers in 1932 found ceramic nativity figures left there as the sea level rose.
