Colle San Carlo

Aosta Valley

Colle San Carlo's larch forests and open pastures climb to a pass offering one of the most complete views of the Mont Blanc range available without a lift or serious ascent, from the Grandes Jorasses to the Aiguille Noire. A small chapel at the pass has marked the crossing for centuries as a shortcut between the Aosta and La Thuile valleys. Wild blueberries carpet the understorey in late summer, drawing both walkers and foraging bears in good years.
