One of the quieter corners of the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Colle di Mezzo's beech forest sits above Villetta Barrea and the Barrea lake, laced with easy waymarked paths. Clearings in the wood are good spots to see the park's red deer at dawn or dusk, away from the busier Camosciara trails.
