The Colle del Melogno links the Val Bormida and the coast at Finale over a saddle cloaked in one of Liguria's largest forests — beech, and a rare planted stand of silver fir. Two 19th-century forts guard the pass, and forest roads and the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri thread the woods toward Monte Settepani.
