Cividale del Friuli (Forum Iulii, founded by Julius Caesar) was the first Lombard capital in Italy (568 AD) and its Lombard and early medieval monuments are UNESCO-listed. The Tempietto Longobardo is one of the finest early medieval interiors in Europe. The Devil's Bridge (13th century) crosses the Natisone gorge below the town.
