Valle delle Orche, Cilento
Campania
The Valle delle Orche follows the Sammaro river through a limestone gorge above Sacco in the Cilento National Park. The gorge cuts 200 m deep with Cyclopean walls; the river runs crystal-clear over white boulders. Ruins of 18th-century paper mills using the river power dot the trail. Kingfisher, grey wagtail and dipper are resident. The Cilento is UNESCO World Heritage for its exceptional biodiversity.
