Castello di Canossa & Rupe di Campotrera

Canossa — where Emperor Henry IV knelt in the snow before Pope Gregory VII in 1077 — is now a fragment of tower and chapel on a pale wind-eroded rock, with a wide view over the Reggio hills. The Rupe di Campotrera reserve a short way off protects dark serpentinite outcrops and an old copper mine.
