Cascate del Rutor

The Rutor glacier's meltwater tumbles down a series of cascades over glacially polished rock before the trail continues up to Lago del Rutor beneath the ice itself. The path follows a centuries-old mule track once used to move livestock and goods over the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass into France. Marmots are near-guaranteed company on the upper stretches, and the glacier, though retreating, still fills the valley head dramatically.
