Cascate del Toce, Formazza
Lombardy
The Cascata del Toce in the Val Formazza (Ossola) above Fondovalle is Italy's tallest accessible waterfall at 143 m — a single vertical jet from a control sluice at the top (flow is managed by the hydroelectric dam). The release schedule (daily in summer) makes the timing predictable. Ibex on the surrounding cliffs. The Formazza valley above is Walser — Germanic-speaking since the 13th century. Dogs welcome.
