Cascate delle Marmore, Terni

The Cascate delle Marmore near Terni were built by the Roman consul Manius Curius Dentatus in 271 BC to drain the Rieti plain — making them the world's oldest man-made waterfall. The 165 m drop in three stages is one of the most powerful water spectacles in Europe. The falls are released on a schedule (not always flowing). Lord Byron was moved to poetry here.
