The Cascata di Marmarico (114 m) near Pizzoni is Calabria's tallest waterfall — a single free-falling drop of 114 m into a gorge carved through Calabrian gneiss. The gorge forest is extremely humid — mosses, ferns and liverworts cover every surface. The walk from Pizzoni passes through old chestnut groves. The waterfall is loudest in spring (March–April) when snowmelt swells the flow.
