Isola di San Pietro — Carloforte

San Pietro island was colonised in 1738 by Ligurian coral fishermen from Tabarka (Tunisia). Today Carloforte — the only village — speaks a Genoese dialect called Tabarchino. The island circuit path passes the extraordinary basalt cliff scenery of the western coast (highest free-standing basalt sea cliff in the Mediterranean at 73 m) and the traditional tuna trapping site.
