Capo Palinuro, Cilento
Campania
Capo Palinuro on the Cilento coast is the most dramatic headland in southern Campania — white limestone cliffs with sea arches and the famous Grotta Azzurra (Blue Cave) accessible by boat. The headland is named for Palinurus, Aeneas's helmsman who drowned here in the Aeneid. The cave has bioluminescent water. Lanner falcon on the cliff. The waters are a marine reserve. Dogs on leash.
