The Fosso Cerite gorge below Cerveteri cuts through volcanic tufa with Etruscan road carvings in the walls — the via cava (hollow way) carved by the Etruscans for drainage and procession. The gorge floor has fern and moss in permanent shade. Cerveteri above (UNESCO) has the largest Etruscan necropolis in Italy. Kingfisher on the stream. Porcupine tracks. Dogs off-leash.
