Canale Cavour, Vercelli Ricefields
Piedmont
The Canale Cavour (1866) waters the Vercelli rice paddies — the largest continuous ricefield plain in Europe, producing Carnaroli and Arborio. The towpath walk from Chivasso passes flat paddies shimmering with water from May to September. In spring the calls of hundreds of herons, egrets and purple herons fill the air.
