Cala dell'Oro, Portofino

Cala dell'Oro below Portofino is accessible only on foot from San Fruttuoso abbey or by boat — a small cove of golden sand and crystal Ligurian water. The Portofino marine reserve below has posidonia meadows, grouper and moray eel in the shallows. The abbey of San Fruttuoso (10th century, owned by FAI) is 20 minutes' walk. The cove has the finest snorkelling on the Ligurian coast. Dogs welcome.
