Cala del Gesso

Named for the pale gypsum outcrops that streak the cliffs above it, this cove on the Argentario promontory stays quieter than the peninsula's better-known beaches because of its awkward access. The descent switchbacks through Mediterranean maquis thick with rosemary and juniper, opening onto clear water good for snorkeling among the rocks. Views stretch toward the Isola del Giglio on clear days.
