The Parco Regionale della Vena del Gesso Romagnola near Brisighella is Italy's largest gypsum karst landscape — brilliant white selenite and alabaster ridges crossing the Romagna hills. The caves within have 15 bat species including the lesser horseshoe bat and Bechstein's bat. The gypsum ridges have specialist flora including 5 orchid species. The medieval village of Brisighella below has three towers on gypsum pinnacles.
