Bosco di Sant'Antonio, Pescocostanzo

The Bosco di Sant'Antonio (250 ha) near Pescocostanzo at 1,200 m is the finest beech forest in the central Apennines — trees up to 500 years old and 35 m tall. The forest has been protected since 1586. The Marsican bear uses the forest in spring and autumn. Wolf dens are found in the old hollow trunks. The forest floor has wild cyclamen and hellebore in spring. Dogs welcome off-leash.
