Bosco Pantano di Policoro
Basilicata
This reserve protects a rare remnant of the riparian oak forest that once lined much of the Ionian coast, threaded by the final stretch of the Sinni river before it meets the sea. It shelters Bonelli's eagle and, along the beach frontage, nesting loggerhead turtles in some years. Ancient white poplars and elms tower over marshy clearings alive with dragonflies.
