Bosco delle Pianelle, Murge
Puglia
The Bosco delle Pianelle near Taranto is the largest surviving fragment of the original Murge holm oak and downy oak forest that once covered the entire plateau. The forest reserve sits above the Gravina di Ginosa canyon; wild cat, stone marten and hoopoe all inhabit the wood. A rare refuge of shade in an otherwise treeless landscape.
