The Bosco del Vaj near Chivasso is one of the oldest preserved forests in the Po plain — oak trees over 200 years old were protected as a Savoy royal hunting reserve. The forest has woodcock, tawny owl and middle spotted woodpecker. The autumn colour (October) is remarkable for the Po plain — scarlet oak and hornbeam turning gold simultaneously. Almost no visitors despite being 20 km from Turin.
