Bosco del Tasso, Capracotta
Molise
Capracotta (1,421 m) is the highest village in the Apennines. Its surrounding forests contain specimens of common yew (Taxus baccata) up to 1,400 years old — predating the village itself. The Bosco del Tasso is protected as a national monument; some yews have trunks 4 m in circumference. The area holds the Italian record for single snowfall events (256 cm in 24 hours, March 2015).
