Bosco del Cansiglio

The Cansiglio forest plateau at 1,000–1,200 m was the exclusive wood-supply reserve of the Venetian Republic — only the State Arsenal could harvest here, and only for ship oars. The beech woodland is now a nature reserve; wolves have recently returned. Sinkholes (doline) dot the plateau and fill with cold air — local microclimates are extraordinary.
