The Bosco di Cerreto above Cercemaggiore is the finest cerro oak (Quercus cerris) forest in southern Molise — 400 ha of old woodland managed as a community resource for centuries. Wild boar, porcupine and fox are common. Porcini and chanterelle mushrooms are excellent in September–October. The forest has ancient pollarded oaks used for centuries as leaf fodder. Almost no visitors.
