Bolgheri — Bosco di San Silvestro

Tuscany

The Oasi WWF di Bolgheri near Castagneto Carducci is a bird sanctuary established in 1959 — among the first wildlife reserves in Italy. The reserve protects 1,700 ha of coastal marsh, reed bed and pine forest adjacent to the Bolgheri wine zone. Wild boar are so habituated they graze alongside walkers. The cypress avenue leading to Bolgheri was immortalised in Carducci's 1871 poem 'Davanti San Guido'.
