Bergamo Alta's Mura Venete (Venetian walls) are UNESCO World Heritage (2017) — 6 km of 16th-century military engineering encircling the hilltop city. The wall top promenade gives continuous views from the Alps to the Po plain. The city inside is medieval and baroque; no cars allowed. The funicular from Bergamo Bassa provides dog-friendly access. Best at dawn before day-trippers arrive.
