The Arch of Trajan, one of the best-preserved Roman triumphal arches anywhere, marks the start of the ancient Via Traiana in the middle of Benevento, while the Ponte Leproso a short walk away still carries traffic over the Sabato river on its original Roman foundations. The route between them follows Benevento's historic centre.
