Baia di Portonovo
Marche
This bay is one of the more accessible points along the otherwise cliff-bound Conero coast, with a small brackish lake, Lago di Portonovo, sitting just behind the beach and supporting its own distinct wetland plant life. Concrete WWII coastal defense bunkers remain half-buried in the scrub above the shore. Two small Romanesque churches nearby add a layer of medieval history to the bay's setting.
