Baia dei Turchi, Otranto

Puglia

The Baia dei Turchi north of Otranto is where the Ottoman fleet landed in 1480 (before the massacre of the 800 martyrs). The beach is reached through 2 km of umbrella pine forest on a sand path. The sand is fine and white; the Adriatic water between Italy and Albania is crystalline. Dogs welcome through the pineta and on the beach.
