Monte Fumaiolo (1,407 m) on the Emilia-Romagna-Tuscany border is the source of the Tiber — the river that built Rome. The spring is marked by a marble column placed by Mussolini in 1932. The summit gives views to the Adriatic and to the Arno valley. Red deer are abundant on the forest slopes. The approach through the Sasso Fratino National Reserve passes ancient beech.
