Altopiano del Salto (Salten) — the larch heath

Trentino-Alto Adige

The Salten is a broad grassy shelf at around 1,500 m between the Adige and Sarntal valleys, dotted with widely spaced ancient larches and grazed by Haflinger horses. Almost-level paths link the Tschögglberg villages of Meltina, Vöran and Jenesien, with a huge view over the Dolomites from the Sciliar to the Latemar.
