Altopiano del Montasio

This broad alpine plateau has supplied milk for Montasio cheese-making since medieval times, and old stone malghe still dot the grassland where cattle graze through summer beneath the sheer walls of the Montasio massif. The plateau also served as a staging area during WWI, and the flat, easy walking makes it accessible even for a relaxed family outing at altitude.
