The Altopiano di Asiago (1,000 m) is inhabited by the Cimbrians — a Germanic-speaking people descended from 12th-century Bavarian settlers who still speak Cimbrian (Zimbrisch) in a few villages. The plateau was entirely destroyed in WWI; every meadow has a cemetery. The beech and fir forest has recovered completely and the walks are beautiful.
