Murge Plateau Walk — Altamura
Puglia
The Murge is a flat limestone plateau that forms Puglia's backbone, dotted with masserie (fortified farmhouses) and karst sinkholes. Near Altamura, the world's oldest Neanderthal footprints (25,000 years old) were discovered in a cave; the city itself is famous for its DOP bread — the largest in Italy, baked in wood-fired ovens.
