Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (Passo del Faiallo)
Liguria
The Alta Via dei Monti Liguri traces the mountainous spine of the region for over 400 kilometres from France to Tuscany, and the section around Passo del Faiallo above Genoa offers classic ridge walking with the sea visible to the south and the Piedmont plain occasionally glimpsed to the north. Beech forest and open heath alternate along the route, with WWI-era fortifications and old charcoal kilns scattered near the pass. It's a favourite training ground for Genoese hiking clubs.
