Alta Valsesia Balcony Trail
Piedmont
This balcony path climbs out of Alagna Valsesia, the historic Walser village at the foot of Monte Rosa, and traverses open pasture with the mountain's glaciated east face filling the entire skyline. Walser wooden houses on stilts, built by German-speaking settlers centuries ago, dot the route's lower stretches. Alpine choughs wheel over the ridgelines and marmots colonize the boulder fields near the top.
