Val d'Agri — Lago del Pertusillo

The Lago del Pertusillo fills the Val d'Agri — a mountain valley that is also Italy's main inland oil field. Despite the incongruous industry nearby, the reservoir has become a major wetland: white-tailed eagle recolonised in 2014 (only inland breeding site in southern Italy), osprey fish from April to November, and night heron colonies number over 200 pairs. The lake circuit trail is flat and dog-friendly.
