The Valle d'Itria centred on Alberobello (UNESCO World Heritage) is the landscape of trulli — round stone houses with conical roofs built in a 'dry stone' technique that could be quickly disassembled to avoid tax (houses required tax payment; disassembled houses did not). The valley has 1,500+ trulli. The olive trees are centuries old — some over 1,000 years old. Dogs welcome on leash in the village streets.
