Alatri's acropolis is ringed by some of the largest and best-known cyclopean walls in Italy, built from megalithic limestone blocks fitted together without mortar, some weighing many tonnes. The platform inside gives a wide view over the Ciociaria countryside, with the medieval town wrapped around the hill below.
