Acquafredda di Maratea
Basilicata
Named for the cold spring water once said to surface here, this string of coves marks the Basilicata coast's border with Campania. Steep, wooded slopes of holm oak and pine drop almost to the waterline, and the water stays notably cool even in high summer. The old coastal railway tunnels run just above, a relic of the line linking Maratea to Sapri.
