Founded in 726 at the foot of the road to the Moncenisio pass, Novalesa's abbey has survived Saracen raids and centuries of rebuilding, and still holds a cluster of small frescoed chapels among the surrounding chestnut trees — distinct from the waterfall of the same valley covered elsewhere in this guide. The grounds and approach lanes make for an easy, shaded walk.
