The Riserva Naturale Integrale di Sasso Fratino on the Tuscan-Romagna Apennine near Bibbiena is the oldest strict nature reserve in Italy (1959) — no human intervention since declaration. The beech and silver fir trees are 300–600 years old. UNESCO Natural Heritage since 2017. Wolf, wild cat and Apennine red deer are present. The surrounding Foreste Casentinesi National Park provides access trails.
