Tradition holds that Saint Benedict spent time here at San Cosimato before establishing his famous monasteries further up the Aniene valley at Subiaco, and the convent still clings to a rock ledge above the river. A quiet countryside path follows the valley from Vicovaro to reach it, well away from the busier Subiaco sites.
