The hill of Solferino, site of one of the largest battles fought in Europe up to that point, holds a memorial tower with a wide view over the surrounding Lombard countryside and an ossuary chapel displaying the remains of thousands of soldiers. The open hillside grounds are quiet and largely undeveloped today.
