Riserva Naturale Selva del Lamone, Farnese
Lazio
The Selva del Lamone covers a low volcanic plateau of jumbled basalt "murce" — chaotic boulder fields — grown over with holm oak, hornbeam and dense undergrowth. Rough tracks cross it past the ruins of the Rofalco Etruscan settlement and the caves and dry-stone huts used by 19th-century brigands; it feels genuinely remote.
